Swords Castle
Located in the centre of the ancient town, Swords Castle is a former residence of the Medieval Archbishop of Dublin. Constructed in a piecemeal fashion over a period of 400 years, Swords castle became one of the eight manorial estates belonging to the medieval Archbishops of Dublin. Parliaments are even said to have been held in the great hall of the Castle. Swords Castle is the only fortified residence of the Archbishop of Dublin to survive in a reasonable state of preservation. Swords Castle contains over 800 years of history.
The Castle is open to visitors: October to March:
Tuesday – Sunday from 9.30am to 4pm, last entry at 3.30pm

March to October:

Tours are provided subject to demand.
After your visit to the castle, time permitting why not indulge yourself with something to eat and drink in the many restaurants and bars in Swords centre. A diverse culinary menu is available, reflecting the evolving influences affecting the county town. If you still have some time to spend in the area why not work off your meal with a walk in one of the River Valley park or along the shores of Broadmeadow estuary, the perfect way to round off a day in Swords.
